You need to bring your driving licence and National Insurance number so we can check live data on the DVLA

Can you meet us at the airport with the campervan?

Edinburgh Airport

  • If arriving by car or taxi, it is a 20 to 25-minute journey
  • If you have booked a transfer with us, a member of our team will meet you outside the arrivals gate with a sign bearing your name

Aberdeen Airport

  • If arriving by car or taxi, it is a 5 to 10-minute journey
  • If you have booked a transfer with us, a member of our team will meet you outside the arrivals gate with a sign bearing your name

What is the earliest and latest time I can collect or return my California?

Our collection times are between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm.

On occasions, and if possible, we may be able to accommodate earlier collections, and if that is the case, we will advise you prior to your arrival. Our return times are between 9am and 11am.

How long will it take for you to hand our campervan over to us?

We recommend allowing minimum 1 hour. When you arrive, we go through your rental agreement, together we will check your vehicle for damage, then we will show you how everything works inside your California.

How long does returning our campervan take?

We recommend allowing 30 minutes. Upon your return, will be checking your vehicle for damage and taking a signature to close our agreement.

What should I pack?

We would recommend that you pack light, layer your clothes for weather changes and bring insect repellent!

What is included in the van?

We provide a range of crockery, cutlery and utensils, Kettle gas bottle and emergency equipment as standard.

Cooking in the California

Can I bring and use a hairdryer and straighteners in the van?

We recommend bringing electrical equipment specific for travelling. This is because home electrical items are too powerful, they may trip the electrical circuit or possibly damage the van. We recommend low wattage specific items for travelling i.e. travel toaster, travel hairdryer and travel kettle. Electrical sockets inside your campervan will only work when you are connected to an electrical hook up.

Do I have to stay in Campsites?

All our vehicles are adapted so you can “wild camp”, this is when you are not in a campsite and are parked freely without an electrical connection. In Scotland, you may park freely in rural areas if you adhere to being 100 metres from a building and are not creating a dangerous situation for yourself or any other road user.

Should I book campsites in advance?

We would recommend booking campsites in advance, especially during peak season which begins in the month of June until the end of August. Especially if you like to have the comfort of added facilities.You can find a listing of all campsites in Scotland on the following web sites:-

Can I go to Europe or Ireland?

Europe and The Republic of Ireland are not permitted due to insurance reasons. You can travel to mainland UK and the surrounding Islands belonging to the UK only.

Who can drive a California?

Anyone between the ages of 21-75 years old (minimum age 21), who has held a driving licence for a minimum of 2 years. Customers 70 – 75 have to be UK Residents and hold a clean driving licence.

What happens if my campervan breaks down while I’m on holiday?

All our California are under 6 months old and are fully cover by VW breakdown and recovery assistance telephone numbers in the event of a break down or a flat tyre.

Can I leave my car with you?

Yes, you can, there is no charge for this. However, Clarkies Campers do not take any responsibility for the vehicle or its contents, whilst it is parked at our premises.

How much will it cost?

The cost will depend on the camper you choose. The price goes from £140 per day.
There are extras such as:

  • £30 fee for an additional driver
  • £12 per day insurance excess
  • £30 one time pet charge
  • £25 for hire of a bike rack.

What are the procedures regarding Covid-19?

We cannot provide any cutleries, cups, bedding etc. The vans are sanitised after every customer. We work according to PPE procedures (masks, gloves, sanitisation, social distancing if possible)

If travel restrictions continue we can refund your deposit at no extra cost or change the dates for you

Can I pick up or drop off the van before 3pm?

This will be possible. But only if the previous customer gives the van back more than 24 hours ago. Best to call ahead to see if the van is back with us

Do I need to pay an excess?

There is an insurance excess for drivers under 24 years old.
